About the Host
Laguna Beach was a magical place from my first visit. I was lucky enough to become a resident in 1971 while working behind The Orange Curtain at free form KYMS/Santa Ana, playing progressive alternative classical jazz album oriented hits of the day.
At the same time, I had a Sunday morningshift on KDAY in LA, and a Sunday afternoongig engineering The Firesign Theatre Radio Hour-Hour on KPPC/Pasadena (now known as KROQ) followed by my own show, pretending to be a free form DJ. Oh, and on Thursdays I worked with Casey Kasem on a show we'd started a year before called AMERICAN TOP 40.
Then, I got a call to drop it all and become a radio host in Canada's most populous city (at the time), Montreal at CKGM-FM (which became CHOM-fm, The Spirit of Montreal). I absorbed Canadian Culture and Music there, and later I became the world's first VeeJay at CJON-TV, St. John's 'NewFunLAND'.
In 1981 I was invited to Canada's largest city (this time it was Toronto), where I hosted eventings on The Spirit of Radio, CFNY. Jump ahead a few decades to 2013; my Spousal Unit and I were back in Laguna Beach, looking for a place to put my internet radio station, and we wandered into My Laguna Office. At the end of my 3 minute conversation with the proprietor, I handed the late Tom Williams my card and he recognized my Radio Name from his days in the Music Business in Toronto. We stayed in touch.. A few months later, Tom suggested to KXFM Founder Tyler Russell that there be a Canadian Show in Laguna Beach, and O Canada was born, July 13, 2023 (a month after BTS's debut). Who knew!
