Mission & Vision

Mission

The mission of KXFM is to be the virtual town square, the unifying connective tissue for all things Laguna Beach. A place where people can congregate to listen, and be heard; where residents drop and share ideas, advice, recipes, suggestions, inspirations, codes for healthy living, causes that need tending, friends who need help, occasions to celebrate, rituals to incorporate, music to dance and make love to, and most of all, a tool to keep each other safe. And seen. That’s the power of community radio.

Vision

We believe radio has a unique compact with the community it serves. As the only media capable of providing an endless and constant stream of communication, it replaces all the media that has been lost to small towns and regions. Thus, it is best served, not only as an amplifier of music and entertainment, but also as the town square. Radio should be a vital tool to combat these divided and often isolated times, when we feel separate from one another. And as social beings, radio can weave the many voices of community together in a shared purpose of resilience, meaning, and togetherness.

We in management believe community radio cannot be partisan or biased. It can and should, however, amplify the expansion and embrace of ideas, to make the most of the human experience, and of this little town we call Laguna.

And one more thing: we got to be fun. Slightly off kilter and defiantly rootsy. Laguna is a town whose heritage is steeped in the counter cultural movement, because it’s always been a town of artists, eccentrics, and intellectuals. We want to honor that tradition and pledge to keep the station slightly weird and unpredictable.
