The Vic isn’t just a skim contest. Ahead of this The Vic isn’t just a skim contest.

Ahead of this weekend’s Vic Skim Contest, we caught up with skimboarding legend Geo Bryan to talk about the history behind the event, his family’s deep ties to the sport, and why this weekend means so much to the skimboarding community.

From the riders in the water to the generations of people who helped build the culture around it, the Vic is about more than who comes out on top. It’s a celebration of the people, history, and community that continue to make skimboarding what it is, and it is engrained in our towns identity.

Catch the action this weekend—and if you can’t make it down to the beach, you can watch the live heats on the Victoria Skimboards YouTube channel.

If you’ve ever walked through Heisler Park, you’ve If you’ve ever walked through Heisler Park, you’ve probably seen this piece. But you might not know the story behind it.

At Monument Point in Heisler Park stands Semper Memento — Latin for Always Remember — Laguna Beach artist Jorg Dubin’s memorial incorporating two steel beams from the World Trade Center.

We recently met Jorg at the piece to hear the story behind its creation, the meaning built into its design, and what it was like to transform objects connected to such a historic moment into a work of public art.

Jorg will be joining us for Art Matters on Wednesday, September 9 at the Rivian Theater, alongside Casey Parlette and Elisabeth Turk, for an evening of short documentaries, conversation, and a closer look at the artists and ideas behind the work.

A well-deserved moment worth looking back on. Ea A well-deserved moment worth looking back on.

Earlier this year, Hans Hagen and Dick Metz presented Elijah Viszolay with the LAF award for Best Male Surfer, recognizing his talent, dedication, and impact on our community both in and out of the water.

Some awards recognize skill. Some recognize character. This one recognized both.

Congratulations @elijahviszolay, keep crushing it 💙
